WhatsApp, learn: Telegram will let you share screen in video calls and slow down or speed up videos

These improvements are available in version 7.9.0 of Telegram.

Despite the fact that the most used instant messaging client in the world is WhatsApp, there are an alternative that has a greater number of functions and that, in addition, it tends to increase them often: we are talking, of course, about Telegram.

Thus, in the latest update of its beta version, the messaging application created by the Durov brothers has once again overtaken the platform owned by Facebook by allowing us share screen in video calls and slow down or speed up video playback.

Telegram is ahead of WhatsApp, again, including two functions that you will surely love

Share screen in video calls and modify the playback speed in videos

As we can read in Testing Catalog the latest beta version of Telegram, with version number 7.9.0, has included a new function that allows us to share the screen during an individual video call.

Thus, with this new function, when we make a video call with another person we can start sharing our screen pressing the second lower button twice from the left. The first press will stop the current video and the second will begin to share our screen. Once this is done, three options will appear at the bottom to choose what we want to share: phone screen, front camera and rear camera.

At this point, we select the first option, click on the option Share video and the usual Android screen recording message will open. Click on Start and the classic will appear red screen share icon in status bar, which indicates that our screen is being shared with our interlocutor.

Keep in mind that this new functionality not yet available to all users and for it to work, both parties must have Telegram beta version installed.

The second great novelty that Telegram has incorporated into its application are some new speed controls in video playback and they work both on local clips shared through the platform and on video links from platforms such as YouTube.

To activate these playback controls while viewing a video, we just have to press the menu button (with an icon with three vertical dots), select the option Speed (Speed) and choose between one of the four available speeds (which will allow us to both slow down and speed up the video):

Lastly, Telegram 7.9.0 also introduces some minor improvements like a new option for clear the history of a chat when it is more than a month old (until now the maximum period was one week) and the capacity to float video message previews when you scroll up or down.
