The new and hypothetical Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha, with its foldable design, is taking shape and shows us more details.
Xiaomi has been preparing a folding mobile for a long time now, and in fact it is that since 2019 images of its prototypes and revealing more and more details in some leaks, who are interested or not, they are encouraging us this year 2021 that is presented as the year of folding mobiles (or also rollable, of course) where Xiaomi will also be present with a hypothetical Mi MIX Alpha.
And we already know that Xiaomi uses its Mi MIX family for its most innovative smartphones, and it has been many months since we have seen a new Mi MIX, so everything seems to indicate that sooner rather than later we will see a folding smartphone that from GizChina they showed us a few hours ago with new leaked images of its first functional prototypes.
All the information agrees, and it is that this device not too different from some renders we had seen, and in fact its concept is essentially much more similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and Motorola RAZR, looking for a large format mobile that folds into a small size and much more comfortable, instead of going for the hybrid experience between tablet and smartphone.
Xiaomi's hypothetical foldable Mi MIX Alpha continues to cook in Haidian ovens, and it seems that its design will be similar to that of the Galaxy Z Flip and Moto RAZR looking for versatility rather than the hybrid experience between tablet and smartphone.
Of course, in the images we see it seems that the external screen uses much better space to offer more useful information while the terminal is folded, copying for the rear a design similar to that of the Xiaomi Mi 11 with a rear camera module that shouldn't lose quality compared to the flagship of the Chinese giant.
There is also talk of better protection for the flexible panel, with a main screen that will not show holes or tears for a video conferencing camera and selfies which will probably be located on the outside to be used with the outer panel exclusively.
According to Chinese sources, Xiaomi will use flexible OLED panels from Samsung, so we understand that this extra protection will be based on some review of the popular ‘Ultra Thin Glass' of the South Korean giant, which this year should take another step forward with the third iteration of its Galaxy Fold.
We do not want to conclude without further expanding the information published in China about a Xiaomi's multi-million dollar investment in both its R&D department and its production lines, with more than 1,300 million dollars destined to improve the design and development processes as well as manufacturing and assembly by Xiaomi.
Apparently, camera tests that previously took 3 or 4 days per unit have now been fully automated, and are tested on the same day of assembly, improving the final results in the multimedia section. In addition, audio labs have been improved to optimize the sound of Xiaomi mobiles, and there is also a new department for the 5G development and optimization improvement and phone software stability.
We only have to hope that these investments are translated into improvements, and in this case the truth is the ‘hype' around the Xiaomi folding is enormous … Will the ‘WoW' of the industry be repeated with the Mi MIX Alpha?
